Well everything’s made of plastic now ‘init.
So now I paint these thing on plastic… what is it about plastic that appeals to me so?
I like the way it preservers the oil on paper paintings… but does it really? How long will they last? Plastic doesn’t last forever [try sitting on a cheap plastic picnic chair that’s more than a few years old] so my paintings have a shelf-life… all paintings have a shelf-life, it’s just mine are painted on plastic.
Disposable, that’s what they are, disposable painting describing a disposable world, we package everything in plastic, why not oil paintings [maybe pile ‘em high and sell ‘em cheap… 3 for the price of two etc…] but really, I just like the way it looks… and the handiness of it - it is so much easier than stretching and sizing canvas and wood… no more mixing gesso in a homemade double boiler… just mix up some paint, and put it on some paper, don’t worry about it, then laminate it and if it’s not good enough at that stage you can mix up some more paint and go again.
