Technically... I enjoy working on smaller paintings, as I feel works created on a small scale are more personal and lend them to a quieter form of expression and this is much more in tune with anything I have to say

For the most part, I work on stretched canvas pulled taut over wooden panels, this gives me a rigid ground to work with and it allows me to use a more varied selection of materials with which to build up the layers of the paintings

As I have always found it exciting to discover a sort of harmony between the often opposing forces, I like to diametrically alter the meaning of the piece with each newly applied layer of paint

I usually don't plan my paintings in advance, I just let them develop intuitively — Sometimes waiting months as I wander around the studio until the right moment arrives; when I feel the energy of some new idea take hold and the images are transformed [as if by magic] as the paint flows and the new brushmarks merge with the old painted surface

I use my time in the company of these canvases to explore ideas about life, the Universe and everything else through the search for compositional balance and the interplay of pictorial elements as they occur between the layers of paint

Totally driven by context, the search for balance follows a strict logic; informed by relationships of measurement and placement and gives rise to a multilayered pentimento effect with the presiding imagery never quite losing touch with what lies just beneath the surface
